Patient Testimonial

"I can't think of enough good things to say about Dr. DeGiorgio. She is smart, up-to-date, clear, and responsive. She heard me, answered all my questions and I never felt rushed out the door. She doesn't rush to surgery and has access to more pre-surgical options than I would have known about. My friends tell me that her needle technique is terrific. Her staff is very pleasant and efficient, and my wait time was very short. She is superb."

Specialties

Musculoskeletal Ultrasound

Evaluate and treat injuries in a dynamic way in the office

Diagnostic: US is a non-invasive tool that can be used to evaluate for soft tissue damage (i.e. muscle, tendon, and ligament tears) as well as assess areas of inflammation (i.e. joint effusion, bursitis, cyst formation) and obstructions causing nerve entrapment, without exposure to radiation.

Therapeutic Injections/procedures: Utilizing US to guide a needle to the target area is a safe and effective way to ensure proper placement. With direct visualization of local nerves/blood vessels there is reduced risk of injury during the procedure and immediate confirmation that the target has been reached. This leads to a greater likelihood of a painless procedure and greater pain relief with the injection.

Commonly Performed Us Guided Procedures:

Barbotage procedure for calcific tendonitis
Bursae injections including scapulothoracic, trochanteric, and subacromial
Cyst aspiration
Joint injections (hip, sacroiliac, shoulder, knee, elbow, wrist, hand, ankle or foot)
Percutaneous needle tenotomy for recalcitrant tennis/golfer’s elbow, gluteal tendinopathy, plantar fascitis
Tendon sheath injections (i.e. bicipital tendonitis, DeQuervain’s tenosynovitis)
Trigger finger injections
Trigger point injections
Peripheral nerve hydro-dissection
Visco-supplementation injections

Concussion Management

Concussion management requires an individualized care plan with a multidisciplinary approach. This enables patients to return to school and work as safely and quickly as possible.

Regenerative Medicine

Regardless of how an acute injury occurs, that injury is followed by an instantaneous and intense inflammatory response, which stimulates tissue to begin the healing process.

All tissue in our body tries to regenerate itself. However, in an effort to quicken the process a much less pliable and less functional “scar tissue” is usually laid down. Ultimately, what we want to do is decrease that scarring event and emphasize that innate regenerative process. By adding growth factors and signaling cells found in our blood and bone marrow to an injury, we can actually reverse this process and guide cells to a more functional healing.

By concentrating these regenerative cells around an injured area, there is a promotion of tissue healing and regeneration through enhancement in recruitment, proliferation and differentiation of cells needed to accelerate the healing process. Tissue healing responses may be different depending on the tissue being treated and the acuity of the injury.

What Dr. DeGiorgio loves about regenerative medicine is that it offers the patient an opportunity to gain back the quality of life they had prior to the injury. Whether its playing professional sports, or hide and seek with the grandkids, everyone’s goal is equally important. Understanding there is no, “one size fits all” treatment, each plan is tailored to meet the need of each individual patient.

Areas of Interest

As a sports medicine specialist, Dr. DeGiorgio has specialized training in non-operative treatment and prevention of injury. With a focus on maximizing function and minimizing disability, she limits patients’ time away from sports, work and school.
